With a next-generation console you would expect next-generation graphics and next-generation gameplay, so when developers drop the ball it’s very disappointing (I’m looking at you Iron Man and Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer!).
Such is the case with NASCAR 08 on the PS3 – the graphics would have looked out of place in 1996, never mind 2008. The cars handle like a 1946 Lada as well, which doesn’t help.

Turning Point: Fall Of Liberty sees you playing the part of a resistance fighter in a first-person shooter than is quite different from the norm – part World War II shooter, part alternative history examination.
I say alternative history as the story is based around what would have happened if Winston Churchill had died after being run over by a taxi in 1931. Basically, we would have been up shit creek without a paddle.
Click here to buy the PS3 version of this game for £19.99 from Woolworths – XBox 360 owners can get their version for the slightly cheaper price of £17.99 as part of the more reduced games at Choices UK deal.
The original controller that came with the PlayStation 3 had the rumble feedback removed, for reasons only known to whatever idiot decided it was a good idea at Sony. Thankfully they’ve rectified this mistake with the Sony PlayStation 3 DualShock 3 Wireless Controller.
It’s basically the same as the previous one, but here’s an interesting fact for you – did you know that the PS3 can support up to seven controllers at one time? Well you do now!
Amazon are currently selling this for £29.99 – for more information, click here.
How much do I love Guitar Hero, let me count the ways… I’m not going to do that, as I’d be here all day (and I’d bore you half to death in the process) – what I will say that it’s one of the best series of games in quite some time.
The basic premise behind the game is to strum along in time to the music, just as you would with a real guitar – except that this one doesn’t have strings, but buttons instead.
Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock is the latest in the series (well technically Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is, but hey ho!) and is available for £44.71 instore at Tesco. The good news is that it comes with a wireless guitar, the better news is that this price is valid for all console releases (PlayStation 3, XBox 360 and Wii).
UPDATE: The PlayStation 2 version is also available for the same price.
The Buzz! games have been very popular on the PlayStation 2, so now it’s time for the PlayStation 3 to get a version of its own. Buzz! Quiz TV is the first to appear on the console, and what a debut it is.
With over 5,000 brand new questions to answer, as well as the ability to download extra quiz packs, this is the biggest title in the Buzz! series yet.
Click here to buy Buzz! Quiz TV, with 4 wireless buzzers, for £32.97 from Tesco – remember to enter the voucher code Freedel at the checkout to get free delivery.
One of the best driving games this year has undoubtedly been Race Driver: Grid. With some of the best graphics seen yet, as well as a great racing experience, this comes very highly recommended.
Play.com have their own Race Driver: Grid – Special Edition which contains a copy of the game, a "making of" DVD, and a hardback artbook. Oh yes, and an exclusively unlockable car as well – the Aston Martin DBR9 (get it by entering the code P47203845).
Click here to buy the PlayStation 3 release, or click here for the XBox 360 version – both of which are £29.99 each.
Cars: Mater-National is a spin-off game from the Disney Pixar film Cars. It’s basically a racing game, but with characters from the movie – kids will love it, I’m sure.
As this is aimed at the younger gamer, expect a whole ton of mini-games thrown in as well. All in all it’s a great bit of enjoyment that everyone can take part in.
Asda have reduced the price of this PS3 game to £12.93 – click here for more details.
I’d hate to be an assassin. There’s all the usual things you have to worry about like making sure you do your job properly and carrying out someone’s orders even if you disagree strongly with them – but you have the added pressure of having to kill someone. Which is never nice.
Anyway, Dark Sector sees you taking the role of Hayden Tenno who has been sent on a mission to get rid of someone in Lasria (in Eastern Europe). When he is attacked by an unseen enemy, our character awakens to find that he has inhuman powers – now he must evolve with these abilities to survive and become a hero.
To get the PS3 version click here, and to buy the XBox 360 release click here – both are £19.99 each at Game.
Although Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots marks Solid Snake’s first appearance on the PlayStation 3, it looks like it will be his only one – any future Metal Gear titles will have a different lead (apparently).
This game sees the conclusion to one of the most epic series’ in gaming history, and is quite possibly the best of the whole lot. Additions like Metal Gear Online (which will get expansion packs throughout this year) only add to the greatness.
Click here to buy this title for £28.99 from ShopTo – one of those cheap games that’s easy to recommend, especially if you’re a fan of the previous Metal Gears.
The first SingStar game on the PlayStation 3 was a big success, so to see a sequel isn’t that much of a surprise. What is slightly surprising is that there’s new stuff been added to the game – to be precise, two new game improvements.
You can now sing with a friend in the all-new "harmony duet" mode and you can also now buy tracks via your PSP (useful if you hear a song on the radio or something and want to sing it at home). SingStar: Volume 2 also comes with 30 new tracks to sing along to.
Click here to buy SingStar: Volume 2 (with two microphones) for £24.99 from Woolworths.
